Services

The occupational, physical, and speech therapists of the South Shore Educational Collaborative are members of the special educational team and provide school based therapy services for students with special needs who require appropriate supportive services to benefit from special education. They collaborate with the educational team to determine the best way to meet student learning needs.Therapists provide evaluation, direct service, consultation, training, and follow-up services for students in our five Collaborative programs in the main Hingham and satellite locations in Hull and Randolph. Additionally, we provide services in SSEC member and non-member school districts.

All school-based therapy services are designed to promote access to the curriculum and school environment, to support participation in classroom learning, and to foster development of life skills. Therapy interventions are integrated into the natural contexts of the school environment and routines. Other SSEC environments such as the greenhouse and outdoor gardens, the indoor therapeutic pool, the outdoor accessible playground, and the walking path around the school can be utilized to maximize therapeutic support. In addition, therapeutic supports are embedded during community trips for learning, leisure, and vocation.

Collaboration with AT

Assistive Technology and Therapy Services work closely with students, parents, colleagues, and vendors to select, document needs, and implement training for assistive technology and positioning/mobility equipment. This can include facilitating the purchase of personal assistive devices and equipment that will promote access to the school environment and curriculum.
